FIRST IMPRESSIONS

GoSuperb is somewhat of a new kid on the block. Created in 2015, borne of frustration due to “dissatisfaction with most big content writing companies”, the website is keen to point out what they do differently. What’s more, their promise of satisfaction comes with not one, but two guarantees – unlimited revisions until you’re happy and (perhaps a red rag to the pedantic bull in me) find one grammar mistake and you’re entitled to a free refund.

Indeed, GoSuperb’s website is also slick and smart. Visually, the colour code is a largely black and orange affair and is easy enough to navigate between the types of content writing available, as well as company gumph and information for clients.

There are numerous samples of work, but a few pages are a little short on this for the moment. With the promises already made, coupled with “in-house, hand-picked writers” I found myself beginning to relish the challenge of putting these claims to the test.

ORDERING CONTENT

Ordering a job was relatively straightforward. The order now button is in-view upon arrival at the homepage. Additionally, the different order options and prices are displayed prominently at the bottom of each content services page. Clear enough so far.

Upon clicking, a screen appears where you can easily select the type of content required, then the next step button carries you through to one more page that requests more information about exactly what you want. I have to say, I liked this second page – no more bickering with those who are supposed to be doing YOU, the client, the service – it is clear for all to see what was ordered and duly, what is expected.

Here: the science made easy bit. There’s no talk of “type” of writers here. No 4-star vs 6-star vs this one’ll do as they’re the cheap and cheerful available one, which I have to say, irks me somewhat as it tends to suggest over-par and sub-par writing. Everything is done by the TYPE of content. High quality (lighter on the research), Superb (heavier on the research, as well as the err...branding perhaps) and rewrites. Simple. Impressive. There’s also a clear choice of a three-day and 24-hour option (at a premium).

WHAT WE ORDERED

We ordered one High Quality website content piece of 1,500 words and one Superb standard 2,000-word article, at a cost of $29.25 and $50.00 respectively (Please be aware that GoSuperb has since updated their pricing. The orders we placed are now $48.75 and $65.00). For both, we went for the three-day turnaround option. The pricing places GoSuperb in the mid-range to somewhat premium end of the spectrum – positioning that seems to be consistent with the branding we’d seen up until the point of ordering.

So the clock started ticking and we waited. On the first day, the team came back to us with a clarification question. For some people, this would be a sign of irritation, we have to say, in this instance, the question was a worthy one and we ended up being impressed at the proactive communication we received. Deadline day came and three hours before the sands of time were due to run out, an email landed in our inbox, complete with article.

WHAT WE RECEIVED

OK firstly – the web content piece. This was the one of the two that required a little less research. Going through the text once it came through was, in a word, satisfying. The company website had been clearly looked at, and logical links had been made between the nature of the organization and the task itself.

But did it pass the grammar test? Well, the $29-odd paid (this order is now $48.25) for the article will not be coming back from whence it came – not one mistake. Whether the writer was a native speaker – we weren’t in a place to work out – perhaps, if being picky, there were a few, slightly clunky, partial phrases that may allude away from the affirmative but the standard really was excellent. Tailored and no clutter as promised on the site.

Now, to the article. Remember – this came with the added research element. Let’s get the guarantees out of the way first this time. Still no luck on the grammar refund (there was one instance that proved cause for pause as to whether we would add a comma or not, but honestly, it was unfounded). However, there was one line we actually rewrote ourselves – although we might add it was the writer’s phrase that gave us the inspiration to add our personal touch to it.

OK, the actual article content. Spot on. Researched, succinct at times (the word count scraped in at 2,035) but sufficiently full-bodied, maybe one instant of a little too much wordiness, but honestly, pretty much what it says on the tin and then some. We couldn’t help but to be impressed. Broad use of vocabulary, evidence of deeper research – in fact – a quick taster:

When originally released in 1994, and for several years after, many assumed that the song was a cover. The fact that it was co-written with her then ever-present writing partner Walter Afanasieff, himself a prolific lyricist and producer, is one Carey has pointed out stoically in many an interview since.

It was clear that the content of both articles had been written by a native or a near-native speaker and had undergone all necessary reviews before being submitted to the client. Alas, no refund, but my goodness, satisfaction.

BOTTOM LINE

GoSuperb seem to be aiming that way. The two orders we received were on the whole immaculate, well-structured pieces of writing in which we could definitely see the worth. The old adage advises us that you get what you pay for, and in these instances, we certainly did. Turns out the question asking was a worthwhile exercise too. No rewrite, no problem.

The only hole that could perhaps be picked was the odd slightly awkward word in the website piece and a tendency to be a little too sophisticated at times, but this really would be splitting hairs.

If GoSuperb can maintain this standard, then it may just start to sit with the bigger players of the content-writing market.

GoSuperb earns the following badges:

  • Above and Beyond, for delivering top quality native-written content at lower than usual price.
  • The Diversifier, for using a breadth of varied vocabulary.
  • The Listener, for following the instructions and in this case, checking them.
  • The Punctualist, for delivering the content on time, with three hours to spare.
  • The Researcher, for finding content that was unexpected and impressive.
  • The Shakespeare, for delivering content which is completely free from any grammatical errors. I’d have wanted a refund if the play had turned out to be poor (dream on), but if these articles had been, in theory, I would have actually received one.
